In an effort to raise additional funds to help put our outstanding candidates over the top in this year's elections, the 47th District decided to hold it's
first ever silent auction. The auction was held in the Rainier Room at the Truitt Building in Auburn on it's normal monthly, meeting night of August 26th.
Members of the 47th District and their families contributed various items to be auctioned off. Everything from gift baskets of goodies to gift certificates
to local area restaurants and spa, from limited edition, autographed copies of books to framed art and collectables. There was a wide variety of interesting
items for everyone to bid on. All but just a couple of the twenty-one donated items sold!
In addition to the silent auction there were also a couple of other fundraiser initiatives such as the new GOTV T-shirts that sports the slogan, "We The People
Have Had Enough!" on the front and, "Ready, Aim, Vote!" on the back. Folks can wear these while out doorbelling their neighborhoods or out running errands.
There was also an effort to encourage folks at each table to donate funds for a new large 4'x 8' sign design similar to the T-shirts that included the names
of our three district candidates to be strategically place around the district. Near the end of the event there were door prizes given out featuring some
popular, newly released books
Kudos to the Longhorn Barbeque who catered the event serving up a mouth watering roasted prime rib with a sides of Au Jus and horseradish sauces. Also to
choose from was some juicy roasted chicken along with fresh green beans, rolls and pasta and cesar salads. So delicious that for some, going back for seconds
was in order! And while everyone was enjoying their meals they were entertained by speeches from Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis, former State Senator Steve Johnson
and our district candidates Joe Fine running for State Senate, Mark Hargrove running for State House - Pos 1, and Rodrigo Yanez running for State House - Pos 2.
each gave reports on the status of their campaigns along with all the upcoming events. But they still need your help and support!
The event proved to be a great success and after the dust settled the District raised over $2,000 from the event making it possible to print up and mail out
thousands of postcards to voters to assist our district candidates.
A special thanks to all the volunteers who helped to organize this year's first auction event for without their tireless efforts it would not have been
such a great success!
